Terms of use
ArchiVHS is a free community catalog of VHS tapes. By using it you agree to these terms. They're written to be read; if something is unclear, the plain meaning is the one we intend.
Your account
You need to be 16 or older to make an account. One account per person, please. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what's done with your account. Your username is public, so don't pick one that pretends to be someone else or that others would find offensive.
What you add to the catalog
The catalog is built by its users. When you add a title, a version, facts or a photo to it, you keep any rights you have in it, and you give ArchiVHS a free, worldwide, permanent, non-exclusive permission to store, show, copy, resize and arrange it on the site, to let everyone view it there, and to keep it in the catalog after you stop using ArchiVHS. Other collectors may correct or add to what you entered.
Only upload photos you took yourself or have the right to share. Facts about a tape (a catalog number, a release year) aren't owned by anyone, but the effort of checking them is appreciated: add what's printed on the tape, as accurately as you can.
Your collection and wantlist are yours and private; see the Privacy page.
Please don't
- add things you know are false, or spam, adverts or junk entries;
- upload anything illegal, hateful, or someone else's private information;
- add or list sexually explicit (X-rated or pornographic) tapes, or upload sexually explicit images. Mainstream films rated R or unrated, and box art with some nudity, are fine;
- harass other people;
- copy the catalog in bulk with automated tools, overload the site, or try to get around its security or into other people's accounts.
We may edit or remove anything that breaks these rules, and suspend or close accounts that do.
Selling and trading in the Back Pages
You can list tapes from your collection for sale or trade in the Back Pages. A deal is between you and the other collector: ArchiVHS isn't part of it, doesn't handle payment or shipping, and can't refund or guarantee anything. Agree how to pay between you, and prefer a method with buyer protection.
- list only tapes you actually have, and take a listing down once the tape is gone;
- list only original retail tapes: no bootlegs, dubs or home recordings sold as originals;
- describe the condition honestly, including wear, stickers and missing parts;
- use messages only to talk about the listed tape: no spam, no harassment, no pushing people to deals off-topic.
You can block anyone, and report a listing or a conversation. We may take down listings and suspend accounts that break these rules; a suspended account can't list tapes or send messages.
Box art, logos and titles
Cover art, studio logos and film titles belong to their owners. ArchiVHS isn't connected with any studio, label or distributor; photos of tapes are shown so collectors can identify and compare them. If you own rights in something on the site and want it removed, email info@archivhs.com with a link to it and we'll deal with it promptly.
Shops and prices
“Find a copy” links go to eBay and Amazon. We're not connected with them and earn nothing from them; anything you buy there is between you and the seller. Nothing on ArchiVHS is a valuation or an appraisal.
The fine print
ArchiVHS is provided free and as it is, without promises that it will always be available, error-free, or that the catalog is complete or correct. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you (My Collection can be downloaded as a spreadsheet). To the fullest extent the law allows, ArchiVHS isn't liable for losses that come from using the site.
We may change these terms; the date at the top will change, and we'll point out big changes on the site. Using ArchiVHS after a change means you accept the new terms. You can stop using ArchiVHS at any time.
